Djokovic, Osaka win 2018 US Open

With the odds against her, Naomi Osaka of Japan won the women’s US Open tennis trophy against Serena Williams after a very controversial ending. The final score was 6-2, 6-4 with Williams racking up three penalties and being fined $17,000 for code violations! The win is 20-year old Osaka’s first Grand Slam final to play in and the first Grand Slam win for Japan.

In the Men’s US Open Tennis Tournament, Novak Djokovic earned his third US Open title and his 14th Grand Slam championship in a score of 6-3, 7-6 (4), 6-3 against Juan Martin del Potro. The win ties Djokovic with Pete Sampras for having the most career Grand Slam single titles putting him behind Roger Federer at 20 wins and Rafael Nadal at 16 wins.
