Barty, Nadal win 2019 French Open

Australia’s Ashleigh Barty claimed her first Grand Slam title of her career on the Court Phillippe Chartrier at the French Open, defeating 19 year old Marketa Vondrousova of the Czech Republic in a 6-1, 6-3 final. Australians celebrated Barty’s triumph excited that she became the first Australian woman to bring home the title for the French Open Championship since Margaret Court in 1973.

In the Men’s French Open tournament, Rafael Nadal from Spain, No. 2 seeded, moved to win his 18th Grand Slam trophy over Austrian pro tennis player Dominic Thiem, seeded No. 4, in an exciting 6-3, 5-7-, 6-1, 6-1 triumph. Rafael continues his record-extending conquest after this 12th French Open championship. Nadal remains the only tennis player to win any major tournament that many times. He continues to be know as the King of Clay.
