The FitzGerald Tennis Center is home of the Legg Mason Tennis Classic and is located in Rock Creek Park in Washington, D.C. The William H.G. FitzGerald Tennis Center is a 7,500 seat tennis facility that features 31 air-conditioned courtside suites, with 25 outdoor tennis courts: 10 hard courts and 15 clay courts.

The Legg Mason Tennis Classic (called then the Washington Star International) came to Washington DC in the summer of 1969, thanks to US Davis Cup captain Donald Dell. Dell had a dream to bring the great sport of tennis to the nations capital, and did so by introducing the William H.G FitzGerald Tennis Center to the greats. With only 7,500 permanent seats, the FitzGerald Tennis Center had to put up temporary bleachers around the clay courts. Each year the tournament got larger, more and more bleachers were added. A small public locker room became available to players in 1973. New hard-court facilities were installed at the FitzGerald Tennis Center in 1987.

The tennis center was named after William H.G. FitzGerald, who was a former U.S. ambassador to Ireland in 1992-1993. FitzGerald and John Safer contributed $2 Million to the Washington Area Tennis Patrons Foundation for the construction of a this stadium.
