Volvo Car Open Information

Formerly known as The Family Circle Cup, the Volvo Car Open has been one of the most traditional events in women’s tennis. The event has continued to be a yearly occurrence in Charleston, a city that is one of America’s most historic treasures. Since 1973, the event has been a WTA Tour affiliated professional tournament currently played on green clay surfaces at the Family Circle Tennis Centre in Charleston, SC. The tournament first began in Amelia Island off of Florida where it was held at the Sea Pines Plantation on Hilton Head Island until 2000 (with the exception of 1976 and 1975). It then moved to Charleston in 2001.
