WIMBLEDON, England (AP) — Roger Federer has won his first match at Wimbledon for a chance at his sixth consecutive Wimbledon title with a 6-3, 6-2, 6-2 win over Dominik Hrbaty (Slovakia) today. Serena Williams, a two-time champion at Wimbledon, opened her winning campaign with a 7-5, 6-3 win over Kaia Kanepi (Estonia) in the opening match on Court 1.
Federer won the first eight points to set the stage in the opening match on Centre Court against his former doubles partner, Hrbaty. Federer dominated throughout the 1hour, 19 minute match.
Federer extended his winning streak on grass to 60 matches. He has not dropped a service game on grass this season, including his title run at Halle, Germany.
Williams, whose wins in 2002 and 2003 at Wimbledon are among her seven major titles, fended off five break point chances in the first set and converted on her only opportunity on set point when Kanepi double faulted.
Williams, who is seeded sixth, broke Kanepi’s serve once in the second set and served out at love.
