A New Yorker, though born March 1, 1880, in Murfreesboro, NC, Julian Southall Myrick was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1963 on the basis of his administrative ability and contributions to the game in the U.S. Known as “Uncle Mike” to friends and associates, he was president of the USTA 1920-22 and an active committeeman. He was a leader in enlarging the U.S. Championships, influential in construction of the Forest Hills Stadium, at a cost of $300,000, in 1923, and launching the Wightman Cup competition between U.S. and British women, the first edition of which inaugurated the stadium. He died in New York, January 4, 1969.
