Lawrence Adams Baker, very active in USTA affairs, was an officer beginning in 1932, and president three years, 1948-50. He was a founder of the National Tennis Foundation, and captained the U.S. Davis Cup team for its 1953 win over Canada at Montreal. He sponsored the Baker Cup, a U.S. vs. Canada event for seniors. Baker was born June 20, 1890, in Lowdensville, SC, lived in East Hampton, NY, and died there October 15, 1980. He entered the Hall of Fame in 1975.
