George Townsend Adee made his sporting as an All-American quarterback at Yale in 1894. He was elevated to the Hall of Fame in 1964, for his contributions to tennis on the administrative side. He was president of the USTA for four years, 1916-19, and was also a member of the Davis Cup and Amateur Rules committees. A New Yorker, he was an enthusiastic tennis player, good enough to appear in the six times U.S. Championships singles between 1903 and 1909. He served in the U.S. Army in the Spanish-American War and World War I. Born January 4, 1874, in Stonington, CT, he died July 31, 1948, in New York.
